Who is Jesus?

Jesus is our Lord and Savior

Jesus Saved us All

Jesus is:

God the Son

My Lord and Savior

Who is Jesus? The answers are found in the Bible, the historical evidence people have trusted for over 2000 years.

Prophesy

God the Son, the 2nd part of the triune God. Isaiah predicted the coming of Jesus ( Is. 9:6-7). A direct descended of Adam and King David.

Jesus was born of a virgin. Mary was like a perfect lamb; unblemished and chosen by God himself to carry His Son.

Luke 1:35 As an angel of God speaks to Mary “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”

Now Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, to a city of Judah, and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Then as she spoke out with a loud voice and said: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.” (Luke 1:39-42)

Heaven Declares!

Jesus birth was celebrated by Heavenly angels announcing “…For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”  to the local shepherds and then suddenly appeared a multitude of Heavenly Hosts praising God saying: “Glory to God in the highest and peace on Earth and good will toward men!” (Luke 2:8-20)

A bright shining star was present over Bethlehem guiding three wise men from the East. These men graciously honored Jesus. King Herod heard of the Savior’s birth from the wise men traveling through his land. Word of His birth brought fear to Herod and the king plotted against the newborn Child of God. The failed plot to kill Jesus brought anger to King Herod so he ordered every male child under the age of two killed, fulfilling Jeremiah’s Old Testament prophesy of lament. God protected Jesus by sending the family to Egypt.

Child of God

When Jesus was only twelve, while visiting Jerusalem during the Passover, He lingered back and stayed in the city while the family and the company with them returned home. After one day Mary and Joseph realized He was not with the group. Mary and Joseph were quite distressed. After three days of searching Jesus was found in the Temple in the midst of the teachers both listening and asking questions. All who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. So when they saw Him, they were amazed. His mother asked Him “Son why have you done this to us?” He answered “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about my Fathers business?”, but they did not understand His answer. (Luke 2:41-50)

True Leadership

Jesus gave of Himself not only at His death but also in His life here on Earth. So many times we read how He served humanity.

Unlike Earthly kings who demanded tribute and service for themselves personally, Jesus traveled from city to city healing, preaching, giving salvation (to those who would accept it), turning water into wine, even raising people from the dead. One of the moments where Jesus humbles Himself lower than a servant is when He washes His disciples’ feet. During that era, this was the most demeaning task anyone could perform. The disciples protested but God Himself insisted, serving humanity instead of commanding it.

Jesus’ time on Earth was for everyone’s salvation. Not just kings, aristocrats, and some religious leaders but for ALL mankind. Redemption is available to any person who wants it, any person who seeks it. His service was an example of how we -the human race- should treat each other with love and kindness.

100% – God and 100% – Man

Jesus was 100% human and 100% God. According to John 1:14, Jesus became a flesh and blood man and came to live among us. In Hebrews 4:15, Jesus was tempted in every way, just as we are. Jesus can then sympathize with our weakness as humans. How Jesus resisted Satan’s temptation is one of the best tools we can use to resist the evil one also. Read (Luke 4:1-11) to find strength in His word.

Lamb of God

Jesus became a man so He could sacrifice His Earthly sinless body to pay the price for our sins. The true Lamb of God; the only one worthy and blameless. The only one Holy enough to pay ALL of our transgressions against God. Jesus did this of His own free will so we as a race could be forgiven and allow us entrance into Heaven. Jesus through this act defeated Satan. The evil one has no power over God and therefore has lost the battle. All we have to do is accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. God gave His only Son as a sinless sacrifice for ALL mankind.

Jesus is the key to membership in God’s family. When He came to our level by becoming a man, He made it possible for us to relate to Him and through Him God may accept us despite our ungodly behavior.

According to John 1:1-3, Jesus existed from the beginning. From the beginning, Jesus was with God, and Jesus was God. Here, the Bible establishes the inseparable nature of Jesus and the God of the Universe. The following verses provide further evidence that Jesus is 100% God and 100% man during His time with us on Earth.

Highlights of Christ’s Time on Earth & the verses:

“I AM…”

When He established His deity by rising from the grave, He made it possible for us to have forgiveness from sin and a renewed relationship with God.

Who is Jesus and why is He the only path to salvation? In John 14:6, Jesus declares:

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Why is it important to know that no other religious leaders throughout history have ever made these claims? According to Ephesians 2:8-9, “For it is by Grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.”

No other religion offers salvation this way. In Christianity, our God; the sinless Son of God, sacrificed Himself for us and by faith alone through Christ Jesus we are saved. Most other religions do “good works” to earn their way into Heaven. Their way requires no faith at all.

Acts 4:12 is clear, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under Heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”
