The Holy Spirit is…

Holy Spirit

God – The Holy Spirit

We all know God is a big God. As we spend time with God, we learn that He consists of three distinct entities. The Holy Spirit is the third part of the triune Godhead, and most likely the least understood.

The Holy Spirit of God

Genesis 1: 1-2 says “In the beginning, God created the Heaven and the Earth. The Earth was without form and void, and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of  God was hovering over the face of the waters.”

“Let US…”

Genesis 1:26 says “Let us make man in our own image…”. Now, this is the Bible, the inspired word of God, Us, and our (plural) was written on purpose. This is not a typo, Us and Our refers to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, any one of these and all three of these is our God of Abraham, Jacob, and Isaac.

Isaiah 63;10 also speaks of “His Holy Spirit” during the rebellious days of 1st and 2nd Kings and 1st and 2nd Chronicles. Mark 28:30 also speaks of blasphemy against the Spirit.

Luke 1:35 As an angel of God speaks to Mary “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”

Like a Dove

Matthew 3:13-17 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and you are coming to me?” But Jesus answered and says to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him. When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

John 14:15-18 states “If you love me keep my commandments. And I pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever-the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”

“I will come to you,” the passage says. The Spirit is God, is Jesus, and is The Father. “I” is used when Jesus is speaking. When you speak of The Holy Spirit or as some Christians, call The Holy Ghost you are speaking of God Himself.

There are dozens more references throughout the Bible on The Holy Spirit. Remember, He may be a separate entity, but The Spirit can be grieved. The Spirit is omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent. The Spirit resides within you; who are saved and believe that Jesus died for your sins and He is the only way to the Father.
