No Time for God in Psalms 2

Psalms 2 Why Nations Rage

Psalms 2

Spending time with God is a gift from God. To know the wisdom, the love, and the care of our Father, our Lord and Savior, and the Holy Spirit are some of the greatest gifts God has ever given us.

I don’t understand why anyone would reject Jesus Christ. As we look at Psalm 2 I almost weep for those people who refuse His sovereignty, His love, His care, and His forgiveness for the whole earth

The Messiah’s Triumph and Kingdom

Why do the [a]nations rage,
And the people plot a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves,
And the rulers take counsel together,
Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,
“Let us break Their bonds in pieces
And cast away Their cords from us.”

The people who say this are accountable to God. They, however, think they answer to no one but themselves. They have foolishly elevated themselves higher than God, and yet as stated in Psalms 1, they will fall away like chaff in the wind. God will scorn them.

He who sits in the heavens shall laugh;
The Lord shall hold them in derision.
Then He shall speak to them in His wrath,
And distress them in His deep displeasure:
“Yet I have [e]set My King
[f]On My holy hill of Zion.”

“I will declare the decree:
The Lord has said to Me,
‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
Ask of Me, and I will give You
The nations for Your inheritance,
And the ends of the earth for Your possession.
You shall break them with a rod of iron;
You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ”

Christ Alone Is Our Judge

God has given the fate of the disobedient nations to Jesus. Christ alone is our Judge. However listen to this passage; this is a not the wrath of anger but a plea to return to Him before it is too late.

 10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings;
Be instructed, you judges of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear,
And rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry,
And you perish in the way,
When His wrath is kindled but a little.
Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. (NKJV)

Our father wants His children to be safe, but we must obey His commands with respect and fear. We are accountable for the things we do both good and bad.

Fear?

There’s that word again, fear. Give respect as you would to your dad, but remember He is God. He may scold you but only to protect you. “Don,t go in the water! You may drown.” “Don’t touch the stove! It’s hot.” You may burn yourself. The cords and restraints God places on us are for our protection, to help protect, not to hinder.

The End Result

Left to our own devices without God’s guidance we will screw up this world beyond even our own imagination. Like rebellious teenagers, we think we know what we’re doing, but don’t.  We can’t see the end result but God can.
