Temptation of Christ

Beware the Path of Deception
Temptation, guilt, shame, unworthiness, weakness of spirit, all of these destructive emotions are the result of Satan’s attempt to drag you away from God. The evil one will craftily lead you to a place where psychological warfare convinces you that you can never return to the love of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
Christ Jesus understands your dilemma. He was tempted by the best / worst one ever. He knows we are weak and sometimes fall prey to Satan’s lies.
Some of the tools available to combat Satan’s evil deceptions, and temptations are found in Matthew 4: 1-11, Luke 4: 1-13.
If you read these passages carefully, you will see how Satan will twist the truth, give half-truths, and outright lie to pull you away from the truth. Always remember, he knows the Bible as well, if not better than you. He actually tried to use the very words of God to tempt Jesus, however, he failed because Jesus is “God in the flesh”, therefore Christ was able to refute the passages Satan tried to use against Him.
Therefore, it is always wise to stay close to the one who wrote and lives the scriptures, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Partner in Christ
If you are tempted (and you will be), read the word of God. Knowing the thoughts of Jesus is the best place to start. Pray, stay close to God, ask for His strength, His wisdom, His Truth, His protection, and not to be deceived.
Drawing strength from God is the first most important step you can make. However, having another Christian to be accountable to who will pray with you and be in your corner is also another way to help you stay accountable and resist the evil one’s attempts. Find another Christian to be accountable to and have a fellow soldier in your corner.
Your Escape Route
Prayer in faith is essential. Praise God and recognize His sovereignty over Satan, ask Him for wisdom and strength, ask Him for forgiveness, and if you stumble in your battle, ask the Holy Spirit to renew your ability to resist and find your “escape route.”
All temptation will have an escape route. Satan can only deceive you, make you think there is no way out, but you will not be tempted beyond your ability to escape.
Warfare
The spiritual battle is on. Formulate a battle plan with a Godly person (hopefully your Pastor) or a fellow person in Christ whom you trust, and you can rely on to “have your back” when your struggle gets intense. If there is no one else you can depend on call on Jesus himself in prayer. Have faith. He will win in the end.
This battle plan must be grounded in scripture, and if it isn’t, you may be lead down the wrong path.
Forgive Yourself-Jesus Has Already
Temptation left unchecked will lead to self-condemnation, shame, guilt, and many other emotions Satan will use to destroy your soul. You may have already asked for forgiveness from God through Jesus, but you must also trust God that you are immediately forgiven the minute you sincerely ask. In short, forgive yourself, God already has. Do not pick up that ball ever again, it has too many chains that will pull you down with the lie of unworthiness.
Jesus Wants You, Just as You Are
Satan will tempt you, then deceive you, then make you hide your indiscretion in shame and self-judgment. Then the Devil will convince you that because of your sin you are unworthy of redemption or love. All lies built to separate you from the love of Jesus Christ.
Jesus spent the majority of His time on Earth ministering to the “sinners” of the world. Jesus is God! He wants you in His presence. Just as you are.
Armor of God
Jesus endured the temptation in the wilderness. He fought back Satan’s lies with scriptural truth. Our Savior was not deceived. We should not be deceived either. Read your bible, study your scriptures, talk with fellow believers, pray continuously, arm yourself with the armor of God. This warfare, this battle has been waged since Satan fell from grace.
Master of Lies
Lucifer was once a highly trusted and loved angel until pride came into his heart and he thought he was equal to or greater than God Himself. He also deceived one-third of all the angels into joining his evil cause. That is when he became Satan. He still wants to be the big guy on campus, so he tricks, deceives, lies, murders, promotes immoral acts all through trickery, lies, and temptation. This evil one has been doing this for thousands of years along with his fallen angels, now known as demons.
Know Your Enemy
Know your enemy, know thyself, and realize you cannot fight this battle alone. God’s strength, the redemption of Jesus, and the Holy Spirit within us is required to properly combat our evil foe.
You are loved. You may think you are unworthy but God Himself, Jesus Christ paid the price of your sin and your weakness from temptation. He gave His life to save your soul so you may have everlasting life and redemption. Jesus Himself rose from the grave three days after His crucifixion. At that point, Satan was defeated. The enemy’s pride, however, is still striving to deceive everyone, trying to drag them to hell thinking it’s a better place when it’s a burning pit of misery and condemnation.
Just Ask
All you have to do is sincerely ask Jesus, your Savior into your heart. Learn the scriptures; keep them close to your heart. Ask for forgiveness; you are loved so much the very Son of God died on the cross for you. He did this because He loves you. As a husband and a father myself, I would give my life to save my family because I love them so much. Jesus willingly died so you may have a chance to be saved also. Just ask and follow Him. Your life will be blessed in Heaven with Jesus.
