David Mourns for Absalom

David and Absalom-Jesus and You

Father and Son

King David was a man after God’s own heart. He spent much time with God and knows how He feels. King David mourns for his son Absalom, just as Jesus mourns for you. Absalom was King David’s son. As Absalom grew he became unlike his father; a man after his own ambition and not God’s.

Absalom slowly began his campaign to undermine David’s throne early on. Envy, revenge, murder, and conspiracy led to Absalom’s revolt and eventual war against his father, King David.

Now David loved his son, similar to Jesus loving us. No matter how much he did wrong the door was always open for Absalom to repent and return to his father’s love. God sent His Son Jesus to open the door for us to return to Him as long as we follow Jesus. In fact, King David left instruction that Absalom was not to be harmed.

A Choice

We all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. However if we, like Absalom, choose not to turn back to God we put our own eternal future in jeopardy.

Absalom eventually died without ever making amends with his father. Because of this, King David fell into a state of mourning or depression if you will. After all Absalom did to undermine King David’s throne, David still loved his son unconditionally. Just as God mourns for us and our disobedience to Him He still loves us unconditionally and wants us to return and make amends to Him.

There is a lot more to this story, especially about King David himself. Yes he was a man after God’s own heart but even he was not perfect. Why don’t you check out 2nd Samuel. It will give the full details.

The Holy Spirit is calling you. Please listen to the whisper, talk to God, let Jesus know your listening. Your silence keeps you from your true Heavenly Father who mourns during your absence.
